Williams unveils a "Rothmans-era" livery

Bookmark and ShareAlthough Williams had scheduled the presentation of its 2011 livery during the pre-season testing in Bahrain, its cancellation inevitable obliged the team to launch it earlier. In fact Williams 2011 livery is a clear reminiscent of the hugely successful Rothmans era of 1994-’97 that featured three world champions, Ayrton Senna, Jacques Villeneuve and Daimon Hill.

Specifically, Williams livery is mainly stuck to its corporate colors of blue and white, but it also incorporates PDVSA's dark-red stripes in order to recreate the Rothmans-sponsored livery of the mid-1990s. In that way, Williams just follows Renault’s emulation of the JPS Lotus era, which is just another subliminal reminder of the tobacco sponsorship after Ferrari's new Marlboro-like logo.

In terms of the sponsors on the car there is no surprises and it appears to be quite much space for more racing advertising, although Pastor Maldonado’s backer, the state-owned Venezuelan oil company PDVSA has a high profile on it.
