Just few days after FIA gave the green light for a new efficient f1 for 2013, featuring smaller turbo engines and a greater emphasis on green technologies such as KERS, Volkswagen has welcomed the introduction of new engine regulations to Formula One for 2013, but denied any shortcoming commitment in the sport setting his priorities at the US market with the introduction of a US-based DTM championship consisted by Audi racing cars as well.
Volkswagen has long been linked to a move to the sport - either under its Audi or Porsche brands - but wasn't keen on the current V8 formula. Yet, the marque's motorsport representative Hans Joachim Stuck has now told various German publications that Volkswagen is interested in the 2013 rules, which Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug said will slash engine budgets by "at least a quarter".
Stuck told Welt am Sonntag newspaper:
"The conditions for a possible entrance of the Volkswagen group have been created."
He is also quoted by rp-online.de as saying: "We have not decided anything, but we very much welcome the FIA's decision."
And he told Bild am Sonntag newspaper: "The engine rules are a good starting point for Volkswagen in Formula One."
More news about a potential entry of VW in F1 hopefully by 2013.
