GP2 championship runner up Sergio Perez will be Kamui Kobayashi's teammate at Sauber F1 Team for the 2011 season after an agreement that involves a sponsorship by Mexican communications giant Telmex.Perez appears to finish second at the 2010 GP2 championship, taking four wins in the series so far including a victory at Monaco. The 20-year-old was the 2007 British F3 champion in the national class and started karting at the age of six.
The agreement means that Nick Heidfeld who replaces veteran Pedro de la Rosa for the final five races of this season, will not stay at the team as a race driver in 2011.
Peter Sauber commented:

He demonstrated his fighting spirit in races over the course of last season and proved that he's ready to take the step up into Formula One. Sergio Perez continued:

Perez has been supported from an early age by Escuderia Telmex, a driver development programme backed by the world's richest man Carlos Slim meaning that Telmex corporation wis expected to feature heavily on the Sauber cars next year as part of a new sponsorship deal. telmex has widely sposnsored Mexican drivers in American open-wheel series.

Mexican GP3 champion Esteban Gutiérrez, another member of Escuderia Telmex, has already been signed as a Sauber test driver. Yet many believe that Slim's sponsorship will be followed by the buyout of Sauber's F1 Team.
