Sauber unveils C30

Bookmark and Share Sauber unveiled its new C30 car in Valencia with the goal of providing greater consistency and more points finishes in 2011. The car retained its white-dark grey colors like the 2010 car although there is more sponsor logos in the car. However, many have been expecting the car to be colored to a more Telmex blue livery whose sponsorship has promoted Sergio Perez as team's official driver along with Kamui Kobayashi. Instead of that minor Telmex advertising is found on the car.

Technical director James Key commented:
"Our aim in the development of the Sauber C30-Ferrari has been to build on the strengths of the C29 and to eliminate its weak points," commented . "In addition, it is also important for us to go into winter testing with a car we understand, and we have worked hard on ensuring the characteristics of the car are heading in a direction we believe in. Since some of the changes decreed by the regulations - particularly regarding the tyres - can only be analysed out on track, it was important for us to build, firstly, a fundamentally predictable car and, secondly, one that would provide sufficient flexibility to respond to ongoing findings at the track and during further development stages."

C30 is powered for one more year by Ferrari engine who will provide as well the KERS unit and features what is now a standard high nose in F1 and a more slender rear end compared to last year's car. Sauber has also opted to use a single mounting for its rear-wing, rather than the twin-mounting arrangement it used on the C29.

Team principal Peter Sauber echoed Key's sentiments, saying that the main goal is to finish in the points on a more consistent basis in 2011.
"We want to finish in the points regularly and clearly improve our position in the FIA Formula One constructors' world championship. 2010 marked the 41st year of our company history and one of the most difficult.
Never before had we faced such reliability problems, but we managed to overcome them in the second half of the season. We implemented some well-considered structural changes. The appointment of James Key as Technical Director already bore fruit last season, and he is now in charge of development of the Sauber C30-Ferrari. At the same time, we have managed to secure our business foundation for the 2011 season. In these economically straitened times that is something we can be proud of too."

The livery also includes a prominent display on the side for the 'Sauber Club One' - an umbrella for those corporate entities who want to enjoy the access given to F1 sponsors without the public exposure. Sauber managing director Monisha Kaltenborn said the club idea had attracted a portfolio of strong Swiss companies who wanted to remain anonymous and the aim was to expand it internationally.
"We launched that in the middle of last year because we could sense when we spoke to different companies that they had issues, maybe environmental, which we couldn't really cover with Formula One. We are convinced that in due time it is going to play a very important role."
